50+ Stunning Christmas Table Decoration Ideas to Bring Festive Cheer

Get inspiration for setting your holiday table this year! Here are 50+ ideas to get you started. Enjoy!

Make a Merry Christmas Tablescape

Have fun dressing up your table for the festive season by adding bursts of greenery, warm plaids, and even bottlebrush trees. After all, you've worked hard to cook a special feast for your guests, so it's important that your table looks great, too!

You can choose a traditional red and gold color scheme or a striking black-and-white palette. Make interesting centerpieces from trays bedecked with deer and baubles, or go for a fun candy cane theme that kids will adore. Check out the photos below for inspiration! I hope you enjoy!

Gold and Red Baubles

If you have lots of red and gold baubles, then this is the idea for you. You can bring in some branches from the yard and hang ornaments all over them. Place mini baubles into wine glasses to mirror the centerpiece. Choose red and gold table linens and dinnerware to match if you have it!

Red Truck With Christmas Trees

Fill a tray with bottlebrush trees to make an interesting display. Then, add a vintage red truck to really bring the piece together. Place one tree in the back of the truck so it looks like it was freshly cut down. Voila! You're all finished! All of your guests will enjoy this festive scene, and it will definitely be a conversation starter all season long.

Wood Slice

For a cozy-looking setup, use a plaid table runner and place a wood slice in the center. Add mini trees in tin pails, plus pinecones to give it a "forest" feel. Finally, add a candle to a mini lantern to make it glow.

Red Charger Plates

Red Charger Plates

Dress up your table with stunning red charger plates. Accent the display with gold details wherever you can; for example, you can include Ferrero Rocher sweets on each plate since they're wrapped in gold foil! Next, place a large vase filled with branches in the center and hang red ornaments from the limbs.

Silver and Red With Faux Berries

Make your table shine brightly by crafting (or buying) wreaths made from silver baubles. Place them around your candleholders to reflect the warmth and glow of the burning candles. For a centerpiece, fill a silver vase with sprays of shiny red faux berries. String silver beads from the light fixture for even more sparkle!

Candy Cane Stripes

Candy Cane Stripes

For a sweet setup, take inspiration from the classic candy cane. Using a red-and-white theme helps to keep things simple!

For this craft, you'll need to lace a white flower arrangement with strands of red beads. This adds a touch of elegance. Next, make little favors out of mini jars filled with cocoa powder and stick mini candy canes to the sides. Place these on top of the plates for guests to take home with them.

Red Plaid With Blue Accents

Red Plaid With Blue Accents

Use a tartan runner to dress up your dining table for the holidays. Offset this with blue and white patterned plates and plain red napkins. Place a bouquet of red flowers in the center, and dot some blue candles down the length of the runner. If you have gold silverware, it looks amazing with this color scheme!

Red Bauble Centerpiece

Red Bauble Centerpiece

Make whimsical centerpieces out of shiny, glittery red baubles! Here's the secret: The baubles are glued to a big Styrofoam ball placed in a vase, making it look like there are a lot more of them. Use hot glue to attach the mini baubles to the foam. Instead of an all-red color scheme, you could use several different colors, like red and white, red and green, or gold and silver. The possibilities are endless!

Peppermint Topiaries

Peppermint Topiaries

Add some festive fun to your table with these little peppermint topiaries! They make a great last-minute centerpiece and are super easy to make. Kids love getting involved in this craft, too. Here's how to do it!

Supplies

  • 4″ Styrofoam balls (one per topiary)
  • Bag of peppermint candies
  • Hot glue gun
  • Thin dowels
  • Little boxes, flower pots, or pails to use as the bases
  • Floral foam
  • Something to weigh down the bases (e.g., rocks, marbles, glass table scatter, etc.)
  • White ribbon
  • Other decorations (optional)

Step-By-Step Instructions

  1. Stick a dowel into each Styrofoam ball, creating a "lollipop" shape.
  2. Cut a piece of floral foam to fit in the bottom of each base.
  3. Stick each "lollipop" into the base; the foam should hold it securely.
  4. Check the balance of the topiary. If it seems tippy, add weight inside the base.
  5. Using a hot glue gun, attach peppermint candies all over the Styrofoam ball.
  6. When the glue dries, tie a white ribbon right under the ball.
  7. Optional: You can add other decorations if you like! For example, in the photo above, the crafter used cotton balls to create fake snow on top of the base.

Bottles of Fresh Greenery

Bottles of Fresh Greenery

For inspired candleholders, add fresh greenery to bottles of water. Place a real or LED candle in the mouth of each bottle. To make them look even more festive for Christmas, add pinecones to the display. Keep in mind that these bottles aren't just for Christmas, though. These make great candleholders for any event (any time of year)!

Tray With Greenery and Candles

To make this wonderful piece, you'll need to add evergreen boughs (real or fake) to a tray. Next, place some candles in a wide-mouthed glass jar and tuck pinecones between the greenery. To make it really stand out, try adding accents like a sparkly gold deer and some gold baubles.

Candles in Flower Pots

Use mini terracotta pots to make these fun candleholders! Decorate them with winter berries, little pinecones, and some greenery. If you're lucky, you can harvest these items from your backyard; if not, purchase fake ones at the craft store. These would look great as table décor for a winter wedding!

Glass Filled With Berries

To recreate this idea, fill a vase half-full with water and some cranberries. Put a candle in the vase, then place it on top of a wood slice. Adorn it with some festive greenery around the edges and sprigs of baby's breath.

Black and White Tablescape

Black and White Tablescape

Create an elegant tablescape by using just two colors: black and white. First, spray-paint some pinecones white to create a snowy look. Next, purchase black and white plaid ribbons and place them over some crisp white napkins. Complete the look with flocked mini trees, white candles, and white winter berries.

Vintage Plates and Tartan

Vintage Plates and Tartan

Create a vintage vibe with old-fashioned plates decorated with Christmas trees. Set the scene with a tartan tablecloth, and enhance the charm with gold goblets. You can add plenty of red candles for a warming effect. If you have some retro drinkware, like the green Whitehall glasses in the photo above, use that, too!

Wine Glasses and Silver Candles

In a pinch, you can turn wine glasses into candleholders—just flip them upside-down! The best thing about this idea is that you can tuck decorative objects into the bell of the wine glass. In the photo above, the crafter paired glittery white stars with rose-gold baubles and flocked pinecones inside the wine glasses and on the tray. Glitter-traced silver candles complete the look.

Christmas Planter With Light-Up Branches

Christmas Planter With Light-Up Branches

This idea looks lovely as a table centerpiece but is equally nice on a side table or low shelf. Paint a planter box white and fill it with faux evergreen boughs, poinsettias (red or—for a more dramatic look—white), colorful ornaments, and white light-up branches. Dangle a few baubles from the branches to draw the eye upwards.

Rustic Branch Centerpiece With Jute Star

To create this outdoorsy centerpiece, purchase a grapevine wreath and some wooden stars. Next, fill the wreath with greenery and pinecones before nestling the stars among the evergreens.

You can either buy a large jute star or make your own (on a piece of parchment paper, lay out jute rope in a star pattern and cover it with white glue so it dries stiff). Finally, attach fairy lights around the star (with twine) and place it in the middle of the wreath.

There are so many beautiful ways to create a holiday tablescape.
